New comedy sketch video pokes fun at Trader Joe’s fanatics

A new YouTube video pokes fun at Trader Joe's fanatics. Pictured is Wendy Bryan in front of the Trader Joe's where she won groceries for using her own bags to carry her groceries.

We’ve all seen them. They walk among us, shopping for avocados, blocks of caramelized onion cheese and Two-Buck Chuck. Maybe there’s one in your close circle of friends or immediate family. Trader Joe’s fanatics are growing in number by the minute, and if you take a close look in the mirror, you may find you’re one of them.

They gush over the white bean dip, marvel at how cheap the peanut butter-filled pretzels are and take pride in the grocery store chain’s ability to use ethnic name stereotypes to rename their own products. Trader Giotti’s olive oil or Trader Joe San Soyaki sauce anyone?

It’s a phenomenon the Dollar Pizza weekly sketch comedy group so eloquently demonstrated in its latest video, “Trader Joe’s.” In the video, one friend tells another about his love for some of the products at Trader Joe’s on a park bench. Beware, some expletives are used in the video.

As the Trader Joe’s fan gets more and more excited, other people passing by stop to join in on the conversation. They can’t stop talking about the store and they’ll use any excuse to bring it up.

“Their chocolate almond bars?” says one fanatic to another. “It’s my reward for running the Chesapeake half marathon next month.”

“Wait, I heard someone talking about the Chesapeake marathon,” says one man jogging by. “Are you talking about Trader Joe’s?”

And the love fest spirals out of control.

If you can’t stop talking about the caramelized onion dip, reasonably-priced organic chicken breast and baked onion ring snacks, don’t worry, you’re not alone.
