Historic meal at Erna’s Elderberry and fun fundraiser at Barnsdall Art Park

Share

Two wine and food events are coming up, one near Yosemite, the other right here in town.

On Friday, the rather grand Erna’s Elderberry House in Oakhurst, just south of the entrance to Yosemite, will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Yosemite Grant Act with a celebratory dinner inspired by Abraham Lincoln’s inaugural dinner at the White House. That’s a lot of history in one dinner and to do the theme full justice, the staff will be dressed in period attire.

Chef Jonathon Perkins’ menu will include sugar snap pea soup, chilled lobster salad, Wagyu beef short ribs braised in red wine and spices, and an “early settlers’” huckleberry tart.

The dinner is $135 per person, and for those who want to stay over, Erna’s Elderberry House is extending a special rate, starting at $295 per night. Reservations are required. Either call (559) 683-6800 or go online at www.chateausureau.com.

On Saturday, Barnsdall Art Park holds its annual EAT.DRINK.ART event and fundraiser from 7 to 11 p.m. at the park off Hollywood Boulevard.

This is not some staid fundraiser, but promises to be lots of fun. KCRW DJ Dan Wilcox will be spinning the music while all sorts of performances take place. Live painting! Giant puppets! Nude sketch models!

Live music, too, from musicians from the television shows “The Voice,” “American Idol,” and “The X Factor.” And if that’s not enough of a draw, think about chow from your favorite food trucks, including Let’s Be Frank, Coolhaus, the Urban Oven and more. Wine, beer and spirits will be curated by Silverlake Wine.

Those in need of art—and who doesn’t need a painting or a small sculpture somewhere?—can check out the silent auction with works from more than 45 not-yet-known and quite renowned artists. Among them are Alice Fellows, Ed Ruscha, Heather Lembcke and Wayne White.

All this fun and only $30 for tickets in advance or $40 at the door. That price includes three drink tickets. If you want to go VIP, then it’s $100 in advance ($110 at the door) and early admission (5:30 p.m. as opposed to 7 p.m. for us regular folks) and small bites catered by former Ray’s and Stark Bar (LACMA) chef Kris Morningstar. He’ll be showing off some of the dishes he’ll be cooking at his soon-to-open restaurant Terrine.

To order tickets, visit the EAT.DRINK.ART site.
