Spring has just about sprung, so it may be time to get out for some food and wine events. Mark your calendars for this trio of wine and food events.
If you haven't already secured tickets for the 36th (!) annual Food Fare in Santa Monica, which supports the Planned Parenthood Los Angeles Guild, now's the time to do it. The event is at Barker Hangar at Santa Monica Airport on Thursday. A ticket buys you a day (or evening) of eating, drinking and shopping.
Among the 150 restaurants cooking up bites for the event are Clementine, Angelini Osteria, Bar Pintxo, Hudson House, Joe's Restaurant, Wilshire and many more. And, of course, Playa Provisions: Owner/chefs Brooke Williamson and Nick Roberts are being honored as chefs of the year. Get tickets at www.pplafoodfare.com or by calling (213) 284-3300. At the door, tickets are $175 for the daytime session (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and $275 for the evening session (6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.).
These include a "Pinot Noir by the Sea" tasting Friday afternoon ($110), a Burgundy Cellar dinner with Domaine Marc LeRoy that night ($130), and a "Funghi Mushroom Foodie Frenzy" seminar Saturday morning ($55) followed by an "Enigmatic Uni (Sea Urchin) Foodie Frenzie" ($55). (Attend both for $99.) The grand tasting is scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m. ($110) when some 120 producers of Pinot Noir from around the world will be pouring their wines. Sorry, but the event's weekend pass (at $1,049) is sold out.
And next week, Eveleigh on the Sunset Strip continues its series of wine dinners. Worth it especially if you're still kicking yourself for missing last month's dinner with Bolinas vintner Sean Thackrey.
The winemaker at the March 10 dinner will be Michael Terrien of Terrien Wines in Santa Cruz. His wines are normally sold by mailing list only. However, he just made a rosé with Eveleigh wine director Alex Marchesini and the restaurant staff, who hand-picked and crushed the Pinot Noir for the wine themselves. Eveleigh will unveil that evening the as-yet unlabeled — and unnamed — rosé.
Chef Jared Levy has planned four courses to be served family-style, with wines paired with each course. The cost is $115 per person, excluding tax and gratuity.
