World Cup dining: Empanadas over meat pies?

Chile vs. Australia, today, 3 p.m.

Apparently, there exists such a thing as a “honey moon,” which means that the moon looms especially large and looks as if it has been dipped in primo bee exudations. Our excellent Deborah Netburn says that if you remember to look up at precisely 9:13 p.m., you will see the “honey moon” at its best.

The World Cup fan, though, will be too bleary to remember this, especially if she has gone to see this afternoon’s game at Rincon Chileno, where she undoubtedly supplemented plates of empanadas, abalone with potato salad, and the unbelievably delicious sweetcorn pie called pastel de choclo with a bottle or two of fine Mendoza Malbec.

Will Australian fans make do with the Lamingtons and meat pies from Bronzed Aussie, which seems to be the only antipodal establishment in town at the moment? Unlikely. Lamingtons and flat whites are tasty, but they do not involve beer. Get some meat pies to go.
