Jimmy Kimmel hosts feast; wine and chocolate pairing; meatball pop-up at Sunny Spot

--The name of this event says it all: The Grahm Crew: Of Flying Cigares and Flying High Chocolatiers. So what does that mean exactly? It’s a custom chocolate and wine pairing event taking place during the Los Angeles Food and Wine Festival today (Saturday). The event is being put on by Randall Grahm, who will represent Bonny Doon Vineyard and his nephew, famed Compartés chocolatier Jonathan Grahm. The two Grahms will talk about their lives as winemaker and chocolatier and they’ll put together a gourmet chocolate and wine tasting. Ruthie Grahm, Randall’s mother and Jonathan’s grandmother, will moderate a Q&A. The event will take place at 4:30 p.m. at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. --Jimmy Kimmel is one of the hottest talk show hosts on late night television. He also happens to be one of the founders of the Galbani cheese Italian Feast of San Gennaro, an annual event put on by the San Gennaro Foundation, an organization that raises money for local charities that benefit underprivileged youth. This year, the fest will take place Sept. 27-29 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Hawthorn Avenue between Highland Avenue and Orange Drive in Hollywood. Kimmel and Adam Carolla will serve as hosts.

The 12th annual fest will celebrate Italian culture and feature food, music, genealogy research, a kid’s corner, bocce, bingo, carnival rides, games and more. There will be a Galbani Cheese cooking stage with Galbani chef Marco, who will demonstrate Italian recipes. The event will end with a Mass on the main event stage given by Msgr. Antonio Cacciapuoti. Admission is $5 with kids younger than 12 free. There will also be an opening night “Prima Notte 2013” gala, hosted by Kimmel and Carolla on Sept. 26. The gala will feature poker, music and a silent and live auction. Tickets for the opening-night gala are available for $30 online. Food and drink will be available for purchase. Entry for the poker tournament is $100 per player. Reserved tables for 10 guests are available for $1000 with a five-course family-style meal included. 1651 N. --The Meatball Shop, a New York City restaurant known for its creative meatball creations, is heading to the West Coast for a one-night only pop-up dinner at Roy Choi’s Sunny Spot in Venice. Choi and Meatball Shop co-owners Daniel Holzman and Michael Chernow have known each other for almost two decades. They’ll prepare a menu of different types of balls, salads and sides. Choi is slated to create his own special ball for the dinner. The dinner will take place Sept. 7 from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. and will be first come, first served. Vans sneakers has designed a limited edition shoe for the pop-up featuring artwork from both The Meatball Shop and Sunny Spot.
