Snyder Picks State Rep. Calley as Running Mate

Rick Snyder, the Republican running for governor, has chosen Brian Calley from Ionia County as his running mate.

Snyder selected Calley to be his lieutenant governor if his wins the election. Calley lives in Portland and is serving his second term in the Michigan House. He received his bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and his master's from Grand Valley State University.

Several high-profile Republican politicians from the Kent County area were on hand for the announcement at the Grand Rapids Public Museum Wednesday afternoon. The pair held a town hall style meeting after the announcement.

Rep. Calley is the lawmaker who organized that bus ride home for local troops during Christmas before they were shipped off to Iraq.

The Democratic candidate, Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero hasn't selected his running mate, but his choice is expected in a few days.
