The Michigan State Police arrested a Hastings man on seven counts related to a domestic assault involving his fiancee and two children Saturday.

At 1:26 a.m. Saturday, troopers from the Michigan State Police Wayland Post responded to a report of a domestic assault on South Main Street in Woodland in northeastern Barry County. Prior to troopers' arrival the female victim fled the house with a baby daughter and went to a neighbor's residence. She informed dispatchers that her 2-year-old son had been assaulted by the suspect -- her fiance, who is a 26-year-old Hastings man and father of the two children -- and she didn't know the child's condition at that point.

Troopers entered the residence and located the suspect and the 2-year-old boy in a bedroom. There were signs of a struggle and damage to numerous pieces of property inside the residence.

The woman said that the suspect had been drinking, became upset and started calling her names, damaging items in the home, threatening her and striking the children so she left, but was unable to take the 2-year-old boy with her.

She said the man is her fiance, but doesn't live with her.

The man was arrested and jailed on the following seven counts:

* One count of domestic assault against his fiancee and mother of his two children.

* Three counts of felonious assault for throwing a knife/scissors at his fiancee, for throwing a knife/scissors at his 1-year-old daughter and for throwing a board at his fiancee.

* Two counts of fourth-degree child abuse for throwing a knife/scissors at fiancee as she was holding the baby and for hitting his 2-year-old son in the face.

* One count of malicious destruction of property less than $200 for damaging a table, mirror and plant, bending a kitchen knife and damaging a bedroom door.
