First it was the Devos Fieldhouse, then the Wolters softball stadium, followed by the Boeve baseball stadium. Three brand new athletic facilities at Hope College over the past three years, and now the Van Andel soccer stadium. A groundbreaking ceremony was held today at the site of the multi-million dollar facility.
It will be quite a kick for Hope College's soccer programs. This fall the school will have a brand new $5.3 million soccer facility; $3 million of it was donated by David and Carol Van Andel. "This was something we felt needed to be done at Hope College to complete the gateway if you will on the eastern side here, said David Van Andel. But also to improve the athletics for Hope College and ultimately to attract the types of students we like to see at Hope College."
The stadium will be located along Fairbanks avenue near 11th street and will hold 1,400 fans; everything about it screams state of the art. "You've got to admit this is going to be such a tremendous draw and a great thing for our gentlemen who want to come out here and work hard everyday and those who will be coming in the future," said Men's coach Steven Smith.
The stadium will be built by a Holland company. The Van Andel Soccer Stadium is scheduled to open saturday October 17, when the men's and women's teams both play at home.Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
