A driver was seriously injured and airlifted to the hospital Monday morning after his car left the road, striking a tree.

Police say that a Chevy Trailblazer, driven by William Williams, 67, from Ionia County, was heading northbound on South Bellamy Road in Easton Township just after 11:00 a.m. when the crash happened.

Rescuers had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate Williams from the wreck. He was then flown via Aeromed to Spectrum Health Hospital in Grand Rapids with serious injuries.

His condition at this time is not known. Authorities are still investigating the crash.
