One person was hurt when a snowmobile narrowly missed a car and hit a tree shortly after noon Saturday in Cass County.

According to Cass County Sheriff Joseph Underwood Jr., at 12:45 p.m. Saturday the Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a crash with injuries in Howard Township. The investigation showed that Ana Larocca, 49, of Chicago was riding a snowmobile southbound on Conrad Road when she turned left to enter a driveway and crossed the roadway in front of a southbound car driven by Taylor Townsend, 23, of Dowagiac.

Both attempted to avoid a collision and Larocca's snowmobile crashed into a tree.

Townsend was not injured while Larocca was transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Ind., where she was still being treated later Saturday afternoon.

Both Larocca and Townsend were wearing seatbelts or helmets. Underwood said alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the incident, which remains under investigation.

The Howard Township Fire Department, Howard Township First Responders and SMCAS Ambulance assisted the Cass County Sheriff's Office at the scene.
