Arrest in Howard City Fatal Hit & Run, Victim Identified

Michael Gregory

Deputies with the Montcalm County Sheriff's Department have arrested a man following a fatal hit and run accident early this morning in Howard City, but have not charged him with the victim's death.

A 911 call was made by the father of a driver that claims to have spotted the victim laying in West Edgerton Street in Howard City around 2:28 a.m. today.

Responding officers found 25 year old Scott Michael Gregory of Howard City deceased at the scene, the apparent victim of a hit and run accident.

Officers made contact with the 911 caller and his son, who only lived a few blocks away from where Gregory was found.

The passerby driver, a 24 year old Howard City resident, was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated.  Investigators say there was evidence that indicates the passerby's vehicle was involved in the fatal hit and run accident.

At this time, the 24 year old that was arrested hasn't been charged with Gregory's death.

Crime scene technicians continue to analyze the passerby's vehicle to determine how or if his vehicle was involved in the accident.

The crash remains under investigation by the Montcalm County Sheriff's Department.  We will have more on this story later this evening.
