The Detroit Tigers hope to have found an external answer to their problems at third base.

The Tigers traded two Class-A prospects to the Kansas City Royals for switch-hitting third baseman Wilson Betemit.

To make room for Betemit on the 25-man roster, the Tigers are designating Brandon Inge for assignment.

Betemit is hitting .281, with 3 homeruns and 27 RBI's this season.  The Tigers sent West Michigan Whitecaps LHP Antonio Cruz and Lakeland catcher Julio Rodriguez.

Inge will have to clear waivers to remain with the Tigers.  If he does, Detroit will designate him to Triple-A Toledo.  Inge has agreed to accept the assignment.
