A 10-acre tract in Celebration is under contract for a condominium-hotel operated by Mona Lisa Hotels & Residences, a French company making its first U.S. appearance.
The Mona Lisa at Celebration is expected to open by spring of 2007, said Bill Haberman, one of several partners in the project with Bernard Guillem, Mona Lisa Hotels and Residences chief executive officer.
The Guillem Family owns Mona Lisa Hotels and Residences which is based in Aix en Provence, near Marseille. The company's Web site lists 25 properties in France.
Haberman said the land deal will close next month and construction should start before year's end.
The 240-unit condo-hotel would be built near Celebration Place, the entry to Celebration off U.S. 192.
Haberman said Century Marketing International Inc. of Orlando will market the project. Reservations are being taken, but no sales will be made until condominium documents are approved by the state. Those are expected to be filed next month, he said.
The hotel units are priced from more than $300,000 to about $500,000, he said.
Matt Kelly, president of The Celebration Co., said the condo-hotel will be another amenity for the town and will provide additional meeting space to support community business.
The 115-room Celebration Hotel opened in 1999 on the edge of the downtown.
Four Seasons Hotels Inc. of Toronto owns 400 acres in southwest Celebration where it plans to build a 425-room hotel, a golf course, time shares, and single family homes.
The company bought the land on the south end of Celebration Boulevard, south of World Drive and east of Interstate 4 in 2002. No development start date has been announced.
