My mother and I were at home with my six-month-old brother. My father had gone to work at the Post Office. I could see the river overflowing the banks.
Later that morning, I remember my mother telling me that we were going to leave the apartment. The next thing I knew, a fireman was helping me into a rowboat, which they had actually rowed into the apartment building.
We went to live with my grandparents on School Street until my parents bought a house in Windsor Locks.
