We had to go to a shoe repair shop in Torrington's South End to pick up one of my shoes, which had been fixed so that I could wear it with a recently broken toe. The repair shop was washed out the next day in the flood!
We weren't able to leave Litchfield for many days as roads were flooded and blocked off in all directions. I remember standing in line at the old Litchfield Playhouse, which was located where the current Town Hall now is, for typhoid shots.
