I was 7 years old at the time, living in Torrington on top of "the hill," and although we were safe, some of my relatives who were in danger from gas tanks exploding had to stay with us.

I remember my father having to get water from the well so we could flush our toilets. I also remember seeing a house floating down the Naugatuck River.

I was very saddened to see downtown Torrington wiped out, especially the bus station where my mother and I used to go to take the bus back and forth on Thursday to shop downtown Torrington.
