I was eleven years old and can remember how my father was stuck at work on the factory roof at the American Brass Company and had to be airlifted by helicopter to escape possible drowning in the Naugatuck River.

I can also envision the water rushing through the valley below our house on the side of the hill and how much force it had. There were parts of houses, cars and all kinds of trash floating in the rapid flowing water.

It was a very scary sight, one that the images will always remain in my memory.
