I lived in the Brooklyn section of Waterbury. The flood waters came on our street, North Leonard Street.

I was 17 years old at the time. It was devastating to see houses and people floating on Riverside Street, helicopters dropping lines to try to save people on rooftops, people screaming, holding on to chimneys on rooftops as houses were floating down Riverside Street, smashing into bridges.

I joined the National Guard that week and assisted in keeping things safe along with other guardsmen. We also garded the gas plant on South Main Street from any intruders.
