I remember the Flood of 1955. I was about 8 and lived in the Waterbury projects, had to boil water and find Wolcott residents that would give us free water to drink.

My dad at the time was working at Scoville in Waterbury. The day it started to rain, we were worried he wouldn't get home from his shift. My father drove himself home safely, but it was a long time before he got home.

My father-in-law had to sit on top of his tractor-trailer with a women he saved in the Winsted area. The water was very high and the woman was asking for help, so they sat on top of the truck.
