SPECIALTIES: Long jump, high jump
ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Jumped 22 feet, 10½ inches to win his second straight New England indoor championship in the long jump, beating the second-place finisher, Ben Shaw of South Kingstown (R.I.) by 7¼ inches. … Was second in the high jump at the New Englands with a leap of 6-feet-7. ... Finished 14th in the long jump and 15th in the high jump at the New Balance Indoor National Championships. … Won the high jump and long jump at SCC, Class LL and State Open championships.
SCINTO SAID: “[Five years ago] if you told me I would be a senior not playing basketball or baseball, I would’ve told you that you were crazy. So it is just kind of strange how things work out. But I think [track] is probably the best thing to ever happen to me. … I’m always thinking and always figuring out what needs to be done for the next jump. I’m always analyzing. I put lot of time and effort into jumping higher and farther. … I’ve always loved to be in a leadership position. I thrive under the pressure of the guys looking up to me and I want to set a good example for the underclassmen and carry our team to wins. I love that role.”
BENNETT SAID: “He wanted all his competitors to do their best so he would have to do his best to beat them. … He’s driven and focused and he’s going to make the most of his opportunities no matter what he does. He rises to the challenge … He certainly deserves [the records and awards] because he’s so nice and such a good teammate. He’s an easy guy to root for.”
UP NEXT: Will compete in the triple jump, long jump and high jump during the spring then attend Princeton in the fall, where he’ll be part of the track and field team. “This summer, I visited a lot of colleges and talked to a lot of coaches and it was a long, stressful ordeal as I’m sure it is for every senior. But I guess I just fell in love with the campus and the team. I just knew it was the best fit for me and it’s where I want to be. I committed in October and I never looked back.”
IN 10 YEARS: “I’ll be 28. So I guess happily married with a family and a job. I’m definitely interested in law and I’m considering going to law school after college so that’s the plan for now.”
