Capital Prep fell a point short of becoming the first cross country team from Hartford to win a state title since 1950 at the Class S championship meet at Wickham Park. The Trailblazers lost to defending champion Bolton, which had 71 points. But Dhahran Velasquez, a Capital Prep junior, won the Class S title and finished fifth at the State Open.
Senior Henry Wynne of Staples-Westport swept the Class LL and the State Open titles and then went to Maine and capped off his season with a New England title.
Led by Brendan Callahan, the Bolton boys won their fourth title in the last five years in Class S.
Lewis Mills-Burlington senior
won the Class M title and the Berkshire League championship.
Peter Brandon led
to the Class SS championship after the Cougars were forced to go home because of the snowstorm at the meet the year before.
