Veteran actress Brenda Thomas will head the cast of TheaterWorks' production of the rarely produced Philip Hayes Dean's 1970 play, "The Sty of the Blind Pig." Tazewell Thompson directs the Hartford production which runs Jan. 20 to Feb. 26.
Thonmas was in "The Cherry Orchard" at Yale Repertory Theatre and "The Old Settler" at the Westport Country Playhouse.
Also featured are Krystal Lucas, Eden Marryshow and Jonathan Earl Peck.
The African-American family drama is set in the South Side Chicago in the late '50s just as the Civil Rights Movement begins. It centers on the relationship between a headstrong matriarch and her sensitive unmarried daughter.
Thompson has become the main director at the theater in recent years, staging "Broke-ology," "God of Carnage," "Race" and "The Mother------ with the Hat." He is next slated to stage John Logan's "Red" at the theater which runs March 23 to May 13.
