Performance artist John Kelly joins the previously announced Bill Camp in the world premiere adaptation of "In a Year with 13 Moons" to be presented at Yale Repertory Theatre in New Haven.
The work is based on the darkly comic New German Cinema film and screenplay by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, adapted by Camp and Robert Woodruff, who also directs, from a translation by Louisa Proske.
Also cast are Christopher Innvar, Jacqueline Kim, Joan MacIntosh, Mariko Nakasone, Babs Olusanmokun, Jesse J. Perez, Monica Santana, Mickey Solis, Gabriel Christian and Ariana Venturithejopin. Musicians in the production are Michaël Attias and Satoshi Takeishi.
The work runs April 26 to May 18 at the Rep, 1120 Chapel St. Opening night is May 2.
Camp also appeared at the Rep in 2009 in Dostoevsky's "Notes from Underground" which he co-adapted with Woodruff, who has also staged at the Rep 2010's "Battle of Black and Dogs" and2011's "Autumn Sonata."
The work is described: "When the object of his affection off-handedly commented, 'too bad you're not a girl,' Erwin disappeared to Casablanca and returned as Elvira. Now, adrift and alone, Elvira revisits the people and places of the past, desperately searching for the identity and love she's never known."
