SIMSBURY--1/22/13--From left, CL&P's Jim Millspaugh Jr., and Andrew J. Ouellette watch the snow guns at work Tuesday in preparation for the Special Olympics Connecticut Winter Games Cross-Country Skiing and Snowshoeing Competition coming up in March at CL&P's Simsbury Area Work Center, 34 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury. Snow making began Monday at 6 a.m. and will go on non-stop for 96 hours through through Thursday, Quellette said. That will amount to 750,000 gallons of water, Mitch Gross, CL&P spokesman, added. Every year since 1991, a group of snowmaking volunteers, primarily Northeast Utilities employees and retirees, has been making the snow happen. Ouellette, who is in charge of the snow making operation, said that a crew of 15, mostly Northeast Utilities retirees, (parent company of Cl&P) is working on the snow making this year.
