Boaters on Long Island Sound last Sunday were treated to rare sight of Bottlenose Dolphins that appeared a short distance off the Connecticut shoreline. The numerous pods of dolphins were photographed feeding off of Little Gull and Great Gull Islands, which are, located 5.5 miles of off the Waterford shoreline. Walter 'Skip' Graf. Stranding Assistant Marine Mammal & Sea Turtle Stranding Program from the Sea Research Foundation Inc/Mystic Aquarium states these dolphins can range in size from 6 to 12 feet and weigh between 300 to 1400 pounds. The public is requested that any and all sightings of healthy, sick, injured or dead seals, whales, dolphins, porpoises and sea turtles please be reported to their Hotline 860-572-5955 ext 107.
