Before pleading guilty to racketeering, fraud and tax evasion charges and before being sentenced to 87 months in federal prison, trash magnate James Galante was the recipient of some glowing letters from leading politicians.
U.S. Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman, former 5th District Rep. Nancy Johnson and state-Senator-turned-Congressional candidate David Cappiello all penned letters of support for Galante or his various charitable causes.
"Jim, you are a shining example of the impact a single individual can have on his community," Lieberman wrote. The senator's 2004 presidential bid took in at least $14,000 from Galante, his associates and their relatives in the fall of 2003.
