Emily Skinner, whose Broadway credits include "Side Show," "Billy Elliott," "Dinner at Eight," "The Full Monty" "James Joyce's The Dead" and "Jekyll & Hyde" will play the diva mouse in "The Great American Mousical," which will receive a "development production" at Goodspeed Musical's Norma Terris Theatre in Chester.
Julie Andrews directs the show, based on the book she co-wrote with her daughter Emma Walton Hamilton.
The show will run Nov. 8 to Dec. 2
Sets and costumes will be designed by Oscar, Emmy and Tony-Award winner Tony Walton, father of Emma and former husband of Ms. Andrews. Walton also directed Goodspeed's production of "Where's Charley?"
The show is described: :"Below the bright lights of Broadway, in the depths of the historic Sovereign Theatre, an acting troupe of mice rehearse their new musical. When the theatre is threatened by demolition and their diva Adelaide disappears, it will take all paws on deck to fulfill the time-honored tradition: the show must go on!"
Also cast is Paul Carlin who recently appeared as Mr. Babcock in Goodspeed’s "Mame." Other Goodspeed credits include "1776," "The Boy Friend" (also directed by Andrews), "Where's Charley"" and "On the Twentieth Century."
Also cast are Larry Cahn, Laura Jordan (Broadway’s "Cry-Baby" and "In My Life"), Noah E. Galvin, Christian Delcroix (Broadway revival of "Follies," "South Pacific," Goodspeed's "Where's Charley), Alessa Neeck (Broadway’s "Irving Berlin's White Christmas") and Allie Schauer (Goodspeed's "Hello! My Babty" and "Radio Girl" at the norma Terris).
Also: Jeremiah James, Caesar Samayoa (Broadway's "Sister Act," "The Pee-Wee Herman Show" and "Hot Feet"), and David Beach,(Broadway's "Mamma Mia!", "Urinetown" and "Moon Over Buffalo."
The ensemble includes Matthew Bauman (Goodspeed’s "Hello! My Baby"), Holly Ann Butler (Broadway’s "How to Succeed..."), Juliane Godfrey, Sean McGibbon and Richard Riaz Yoder "Goodspeed's "My One and Only" and "Radio Girl.").
The show's score has music by Zina Goldrich and lyrics by Marcy Heisler. The show's book is by Hunter Bell (Broadway's "[title of show]") and choreography is by Tony Award-winner Christopher Gattelli (Broadway's "Newsies"). Lighting design will be by Richard Pilbrow. Sound design will be by Jay Hilton.
