Isn't half the fun of competitive arts awards the chance to guess who will be nominated, then win?
The first half of this sort of merriment for the theater world is the Tony Award nominations which will be announced Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m.
So here goes my forecast:
Best play: The Lyons, Clybourne Park, Other Desert Cities, Peter and the Starcatcher
Best revival: The Best Man, Death of a Salesman, Wit, The Road to Mecca
Best musical: Once, Newsies, Nice Work If You Can Get It, and yes, Spider-Man -- unless Peter and the Starcatcher is moved into this category out of lack of worthy entries
Best revival of a musical:Evita,Follies, Porgy and Bess, Jesus Christ Superstar (Could there be less nominees with several of these not really solid entries?)
Actor: Philip Seymour Hoffman, James Earl Jones, Christain Borle,, James Corden, (if a fifth, John Lithgow)
Actress: Nina Arialdi, Stockard Channing, Linda Lavin, Tracie Bennett (if a fifth, Cynthia Nixon)
Actor musical: Steve Kazee, Raul Esparza, Jeremy Jordan, Ricky Martin
Actress musical: Cristin Milioti, Audra McDonald, Kelli O'Hara, Jan Maxwell
