There is a great opportunity on the horizon for inviting a novice into the world of live classical music. Buy them tickets to the Hartford Symphony Orchestra's concert called "Symphonie Fantastique" running Jan. 10 to 13. The centerpiece of this program is the Symphonie Fantastique by Hector Berlioz. The event will also include the romantic "Concerto for Violin" by the American composer Samuel Barber featuring violinist Alexander Kerr (pictured), perhaps best known as the former concertmaster of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. The concerts are held in the Belding Theatre at the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts, 166 Capitol Ave., Hartford. Show times are 7:30 Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 3 p.m. Sunday.
