Chris Peluso (Broadway's "Mamma Mia") starred in the Goodspeed production, which, with 27 actors, was Goodspeed's largest production.
Gabriel Barre ("The Wild Party"), who staged the Goodspeed production, directs the showcase which will run Dec. 11-12 at Lincoln Center's Clark Studio Theater. Barre staged many Goodspeed shows, including "Houdini," "Summer of '42," "Pippin," "King of Hearts," "Finian's Rainbow" "Summer of '42" and "Houdini." Choreography for the Goodspeed show was by Benoit-Swan Pouffer, artistic director of Cedar Lakes Contemporary Ballet in
Whitney Bashor, Harriet D. Foy and Chris Hoch, who were in the Goodspeed workshop which ran May 17 to June 10, 2012, will also appear in the New York reading.
The musical centers John Newton, the composer of hymn "Amazing Grace" and a slave trader whose later became a leading abolitionist.
Music and lyrics by Christopher Smith, who also co-wrote the book with Arthur Giron.
