There was some gathering of more than 80 folks Wednesday at Hartford Stage, bringing together the leadership of six producing theaters with the governor and other state honchos.
It was the first time board members, artistic directors, managing directors and staff of the theaters -- Hartford Stage, Long Wharf Theatre, Goodspeed Musicals, Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, Yale Repertory Theatre and Westport Country Playhouse -- came together in such numbers.
The event was a thank you to Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and others who supported a new $500,000 line item in which the producing theaters -- along with one presenting house (Torrington’s Warner Theatre) -- share in the annual $500,000 expenditure.
Also on hand was Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman; the governor’s wife, Cathy Malloy, who is CEO of the Greater Hartford Arts Council; deputy commissioner of the Department of Economic and Community Development, Kip Bergstrom; State Sen. Bob Duff and lobbyist Kevin Reynolds.
It was another opportunity to promote some impressive facts surrounding the producing theater’s impact on the state’s economy.
Now about that Connecticut Theater Trail for the state’s tourism office....
