- World-reknowned building conservation expert John Canning of Cheshire began his assessment of the Hartford Times building portico Wednesday working on a scaffolding which reached to the ceiling. In photo, Canning carefully extracted paint samples from the ceiling of the elaborate portico which will be sent to an expert to be analyzed. Canning found more than 35 different colors in the ceiling so far. Canning is working with the architect with the hopes of doing the restoration work when the time comes. The facade of the Hartford Times building came from the Madison Square Presbyterian Church in New York City and is a Hartford treasure.
