Cromwell resident Bivenne Harvey Staiger created the artwork on the cover of this week's iTowns. Staiger, a former textile designer and award-winning artist from Great Neck, N.Y., has lived in Connecticut since 2001, where she now teaches watercolor for the Middletown Art Guild and the Portland Senior Center. Bivenne has a fine arts degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She studied watercolor with Barbara Beck of Middletown and took a one-week workshop with Tony Couch, a nationally known watercolorist. Staiger incorporates her love of nature in her artwork, depicting flowers, animals and landscapes, and tries to portray through her work and her teaching the vibrancy of color, contrast, light and beauty that she sees in living things. She also works in ink, pencil, collage and scraper board, sometimes combining media.
