Rita W. Bond, a longtime resident of Simsbury, holds a master's degree from Teachers College, Columbia University. She studied landscape design at the New York Botanical Garden, and has owned her own business as a residential landscape designer for more than 10 year. She is a member of the West Hartford Art League and the Avon Art Association. Her work is primarily in oil, acrylic or pastel. Her work is in the permanent collection of the University of Connecticut Health Center. She has been a visiting artist in the Simsbury school system. Purple Light, the artwork on this week's cover, is based on a "scene I saw on a beautiful Fall morning at the Hilstead, when the land was suffused in a lovely purple light."
