Frank Campailla of Berlin is mostly a self-taught artist. His only formal art education is from art classes while attending St. Thomas Aquinas High School in New Britain and a drawing course at Central Connecticut State University one summer while in high school. His primary medium is graphite pencil. An avid jazz fan, he developed a passion for Louis Armstrong's music. He made the cover drawing using only an HB pencil with various pressure and an eraser. "I love details -- the fine details only noticeable when looking closely, such as faint eyelashes, wrinkles in the skin or the slightest change in value. When artwork is preserved well, it can last forever," he says.
