Pat Skinner of Willington went back to college at age 38, earning an associate's degree at Manchester Community College, a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Connecticut, and a master's degree in public health from the University of North Carolina. She worked as a homecare consultant for the National League of Nursing, testifying before Congress on the growing field of home care. She also served as director of planning and development at the Visiting Nurse Association of Worcester, Mass., and as executive director of several VNAs. After retirement, she took art classes at a local craft supply store and MCC. "As a child, I loved coloring and the world of color," she says, "and at this stage in my life, I wanted to immerse myself back in it."
