Comedian Kevin Meaney will go drag when stars as Edna Turnblad in Connecticut Repertory Theatre production of the musical "Hairspray," April 25 to May 5 at the Harriet S. Jorgensen Theatre on the UConn campus in Storrs.
Meaney starred in the CBS sitcom, "Uncle Buck," was featured in the film "Big" and has numerous appearances on TV from his network debut on "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson" in 1987 to a recent appearance ion "30 Rock."
Meaney, who has performed standup comedy since the '80s, also wrote, produced and starred in the solo autobiographical play "Wedding Vows in Vegas."
Meaney performed in the original Broadway production of "Hairspray," which is based in the film by John Waters.
No other casting has been announced yet for the UConn production, which will include students in the theater program.
