McMahon is a professional wrestling businessperson and a candidate for the Republican Party, as stated by the Hartford Courant. She developed World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc., with her husband Vince. In 2009 she ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the U.S. Senate from Connecticut, losing to the Democratic nominee Richard Blumenthal in the general election. McMahon was also the Republican nominee for Connecticut's other Senate seat to replace retiring Senator Joe Lieberman in the 2012 general election, but lost again to Democratic Representative Chris Murphy.
