Long Wharf Theatre's production of "My Name Is Asher Lev" will transfer to off-Broadway, with performances beginning Nov. 8 at the Westside Theatre.
The play is adapted by Aaron Posner from Chaim Potok's 1972 novel 1972 novel about the conflict of a young Hasidic Jew in Brooklyn between his art and his religion. The show ran this spring at the New Haven theater. Artistic director Gordon Edelstein staged the production.
The New York production will open Nov. 28 at the theater, located at 407 W. 43rd St. An 18-week is planned.
the production will again feature Mark Nelson and Ari Brand. Jenny Bacon replaces Melissa Miller.
Darren Bagert, who was part of the Tony Award-winning producing group for "Long Day's Journey Into Night
" starring Brian Dennehy and a revival of the musical "Company," will produce the play.
Long Wharf Theatre has sent more productions to New York than any other regional theater. Most recently it transferred its "February House" and "The Glass Menagerie" there.
