Alexander Keith's Nova Scotia Style Brown Ale

Brewery: Alexander Keith’s Where: Established 1820 in Halifax , Nova Scotia, recently bought out by Anheuser-Busch ABV (Alcohol by Volume): 5.4 percent Distinguishing Characteristics: Bold yet friendly, like the people from this region. Medium-bodied with hints of caramel and honey. Comment: I had my first Alexander Keith’s (say “Keets”) on draft at the Boston Pizza in Nova Scotia, where the beer hails from. (So, too, does the Pittsburgh Penguins’ Sidney Crosby; his father recommended both the bar and the beer.) I was thrilled to see the beer become available in Connecticut this month. The Brown Ale is a lighter brown beer with a buttery finish. Smooth as Sid’s slap shot. And good year-round. — Alison Morris (
