Timeline: Stephen Morgan's Path
•1980s: Spends childhood in Boston area; Morgan's father is a Harvard Business School graduate and retired venture capitalist.
•1998: Graduates from elite St. John's Preparatory School in Danvers, Mass.; does not shine socially or academically.
•1999: Enlists in Navy; assigned to guided missile cruiser USS Lake Erie; deployed overseas; completes four-year stint with no negative conduct..
•2003-2006: Leaves Navy, former Navy colleague reportedly complains Morgan harassed him with disturbing e-mails and calls; Morgan sells house he owned in Colorado Springs for just under $230,000; drifts around Colorado, moving among various apartments; tells people he broke up with his "fiancé."
•Spring 2007: Moves to a student-dominated apartment building in Boulder, Colo., home of University of Colorado; signs up for a couple of CU classes as non-degree student; the 27-year-old is described by neighbors as withdrawn, prone to complain about loud parties.
•Summer 2007: Moves to New York, enrolls in summer course on human sexuality at New York University. Johanna Justin-Jinich, a student at Wesleyan University, takes the same course. She files complaint to police about receiving several dozen harassing e-mails from Morgan that reportedly increasingly focused on her choice of clothes and Jewish religion; she doesn't press charges.
•Fall 2007: Morgan returns to Boulder area, signs up for classes at CU.
•2008: Registers for course at UC, but withdraws, moves back to Massachusetts.
•Tuesday, May 5, 2009: Tells father he is heading to Newport, R.I. and gathers his belongings, leaving behind box of 9mm ammunition and empty handgun holster, according to police.
•Wednesday: Justin-Jinich, a 21-year-old junior at Wesleyan, is shot to death at bookstore near campus where she worked. Police find Morgan's journal with writings that target Justin-Jinich, Jews and Wesleyan students; begin manhunt for Morgan.
•Thursday: A wet and dirty Morgan turns himself in at convenience store in Meriden.
•Friday: Morgan arraigned on charge of murder. Held on $15 million bail.
