Kevin Gray, the Broadway actor-turned-educator, will direct The Hartt School production of the musical “Time After Time,” March 8 to 11 at Millard Auditorium, 200 Bloomfield Ave at the University of Hartford in West Hartford.
The musical is based on the novel by Karl Alexander and centers on writer H.G. Wells as he uses a time machine to follow Jack the Ripper to present day New York. Music is by Jeffrey Saver and book and lyrics by Stephen Cole.
Cole and Saver will participate in the show’s rehearsals.
Saver, a keyboardist and conductor on various Broadway shows such as “Sunday in the Park With George,” “Chicago” and “Sister Act,” taught at Point Park in Pittsburgh, where “Time After Time” had its beginning.
Cole won the Edward Kleban Award, five Dallas Theatre League Awards, an Outer Critic's Circle nomination for Best Off-Broadway Musical, an Honorable Mention for Best Lyrics from The New York Musical Theatre Festival, and the Gilman-Gonzalez Falla Commendation .
Gray's most notable Broadway role was as the star in the long-running "The Phantom of the Opera."
