Carole Codianni from Naugatuck and Kevin Bleau from Southington were honored, along with Plainville Police Officers Bryan Cybulski and Greg Barrett (seen at right) by the state police during a ceremony at the Connecticut State Police Training Academy in Meriden Monday. On Feb. 1 at 6:30 a.m., Troop H received 911 calls about a motor vehicle accident on I-84 in Plainville, reporting a vehicle that left the roadway onto the shoulder was on fire. While troopers were responding to the area, Bleau came upon the accident on his way to work. He stopped and rushed to the aid of the female driver who was still in the burning vehicle, unable to free herself. He smashed the window to gain entry and pulled her from the vehicle. Officer Cybulski arrived on scene and with Mr. Bleau, they moved the driver away from the burning vehicle. Officer Barrett arrived on the scene, retrieved his first aid supplies, and provided immediate care and oxygen to the driver. Codianni was traveling in the area when she saw the accident scene, stopped her vehicle and also provided first aid to the victim. Pfficers Cybulski and Barrett each received a medal for lifesaving. Bleau and Codianni each received a Commissioner's Recognition Award.
