UConn Men After An NIT Appearance

UConn's 2009-10 season ended with a loss to Virginia Tech in the second round of the NIT. It was the Huskies' sixth NIT appearance under Jim Calhoun. A look at what followed each of those appearances.


Won the NIT and finished 20-14.

Next season: Returned to the NIT and finished 18-13 after a third-round loss to Alabama-Birmingham.


Advanced to quarterfinals before a loss to Alabama-Birmingham, finishing 18-13.

Next season: The Dream Season. The first UConn team to appear in the NCAA Tournament under Calhoun, the Huskies were a No.1 seed, advanced to the Elite Eight before losing to Duke and finished 31-6.


UConn finished 15-13 after a first-round loss to Jackson State.

Next season: The Huskies finished 29-5, 16-2 in the Big East, but lost to Florida in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.


UConn advanced to the NIT semifinals in New York before losing to Florida State. The Huskies then defeated Arkansas in the third-place game to finish 18-15.

Next season: UConn set a program record for victories by finishing 32-5 and lost in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament to eventual champion North Carolina.


The Huskies (20-12) reached 20 victories with a first-round victory over South Carolina, but lost in the second round to Detroit.

Next season: UConn reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament, losing to eventual champion Maryland and finishing 27-7.
