At Albany, N.Y., Rich Kelly had 16 points, including a pair of key driving layups late, and Cameron Young added his fourth straight double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds as the seventh-seeded Quinnipiac men upset No. 2 seed Canisius 72-69 on Friday night in the quarterfinals of the MAAC Tournament. Canisius had three shot attempts on its final possession, missing a final 3-pointer the horn sounded. The Bobcats will face the Niagara -Fairfield winner on Sunday in the semifinals at 9:30 p.m.
Eastern 75, Johnson & Wales 59: Behind a game-high 20 points from Kendall Marquez and a 19-4 run over the final 6:07, Eastern won at home in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament. Eastern next will host Middlebury Saturday at 7 p.m. Tarchee Brown had 15 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and Carlos Gonzalez had 18 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals for Eastern (26-3).
Wesleyan 101, Southern Vermont 71: Austin Hutcherson scored a game-high 33 points and added six rebounds and six steals as Wesleyan advanced in the NCAA Div. III tournament. Wesleyan will face Swarthmore Saturday at 7 p.m. Nathan Krill had 16 points and 10 rebounds and JR Bascom had 10 points and nine rebounds for Wesleyan (22-6).
Yale 80, Penn 79: Paul Atkinson hit a layup at the buzzer to propel Yale to a home Ivy League victory. Azar Swain stole the ball with three seconds left, leading to Atkinson's winning shot. Atkinson finished with 17 points and six rebounds. Yale (15-14) was led by 24 points from Trey Phils and 23 points, 12 rebounds from Miye Oni. Darnell Foreman and Caleb Woods each had 21 points for Penn (21-8).
Central 83, St. Francis-Brooklyn 77 (OT): Central outscored St. Francis-Brooklyn 16-10 in overtime to secure a road conference victory. Morgan Johnson led Central (7-21) with 18 points. Kiana Patterson had 17 points and six assists, Andy Lydon had 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Emma McCamus and Sydney Hines added 15 and 13 points, respectively, off the bench for Central. Maria Palarino led St. Francis (12-16) with a game-high 25 points.
Quinnipiac 83, Monmouth 44: Carly Fabbri had 19 points to lead Quinnipiac to a MAAC quarterfinal victory over Monmouth from the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. Quinnipiac, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, will face the winner of Saturday's Fairfield/Rider game on Sunday at 11 a.m. Paula Strautmane had 10 points and 11 rebounds for Quinnipiac (25-5).
