Piper Kerman did 15 months in Danbury's Federal Correctional Institution for her brief involvement in the drug trade. That led to her memoir, "Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison" (Spiegel & Grau, $16), which became a No. 1 New York Times best-seller and a huge hit on Netflix. Kerman will speak 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, at Hartford Stage, 50 Church St., Hartford, in a program about the culture of prison life. Information and more book events here.
