Chris: All of these plays were amazing and were great choices, but I had to go with Kemba's shot during the Pitt game. I'm in the Pep Band, and seeing that shot courtside was unreal!
Puneet: The Springer catch and Teggart's BCS clincher were great, but championships trump all and this was the year of Kemba. His shot vs Pitt was the turning point of the historic 11-game postseason run.
Ashley: Any shot that could make Calhoun do his little Irish jig has to win, but voting for Roscoe is pretty darn tempting...
Alex: Teggart was great but only had to beat himself. Kemba had to beat the clock, his defender, McGhee and recent history with Pitt. His play opened the door to two Championships.
Zoom268: The "Lebron" was simply the best. KWalker's off the backboard to himself was hands down the best.
Pat: I watch all UCONN sports teams on TV and enoyed all the great plays. It was hard to choose between Kemba and Maya but in the end Kemba just had the most amazing year.
uhoh: KW's GW shot vs pitt was my favorite. calhoun's victory dance is classic. teggart's feild goal was legendary. however the reaction on people's faces to roscoe's full court shot were priceless!!!
PJ: While all the visuals are compelling all you have to do is close your eyes & listen. Kemba's sneaker squeaking step back, ankle breaking swish of a buzzer beater silences all others!
walt: Against Georgetown, Kemba - in the air- changes shot to a rebound against backboard, puts the ball in the basket - in milleseconds, gotta be the best!!
Bob: Kemba easily had ten terrific plays himself! Credit the success of the other sports for having their share of magic moments, but, with all the great plays, why does the Roscoe play need to be there?? shirley: we have followed UConn football since the 60's and have not seen such excitement since Uconn beat Yale in the Yale bowl
Vinny: Kemba's step back without a doubt. That's the play that people will remember when they think of the 2011 National Champions. CARDIAC KEMBA!
bigE: Kemba's killer move on Pitt was the catalyst to an improbable NCAA Championship run that really came out of nowhere. Prior to the Big East Tournament, who thought they would run the table like that???
Scott: Teggart's field goal put the program in a place it has never been the BCS. No question that was the play - the others were great plays but not as timely or as significant as a BCS fb game jay: I wish I could make a catch like George Maybe some day
Ruth: Are we voting for result of the play or whether the play itself is spectacular or both? If both, it's Kemba's shot vs. Pitt. If spectacular, it's still Texas.
Ruth: I love Maya Moore's plays and I love the UCONN Women but I have to vote for Kemba. So many extraordinary plays in critical junctures. And the Texas shot is just unbelievable. But weren't they all?
Tom: The Teggart kick was very special. The Kemba shot signified the Championship Run. Gotta go with Kemba.
Gregory Koch: I'd have to say the Teggart Field Goal to beat West Virginia. If he missed that and we lost in the second OT, then we would not have the momentum we did, and likely wouldn't even make ANY bowl.
Terrell: Kemba's play vs. Pitt is my favorite, DT's kick to beat USF was the most important, but Edsall going for it on 4th down vs. Pitt made the BCS Trip possible.
UConnJack: Jimmy and Geno, Penders and Edsall,
Sam Dostaler: The kemba step back has to be the best because it is a moment UConn fans will remember forever. They will also remember where and who they we were watching it with.
Hoopster: You came up with some great choices--some I had forgotten, but none of the others resulted in a national championship--without Kemba's buzzer beater, #3 never would/could have happened.
JP: Coach Calhoun said all year that UCONN could beat anybody and once they got past Pitt in the Big East Tournament, the Huskies had the confidence to go all the way.
Chris: As great as Kemba's ankle breaker was, it did not change the program the way Teggart's boot potentially will. Will we think of that kick in the same light as The Shot? Time will tell.....
Wise old al: I'm old and I have seen many great catches by pros and amateurs alike., Springer's catch was the greatest I have ever seen. And that takes nothing away from the others.
Al Bradley: Kemba's shot on Pitt showed how all teams after that "crumbled and bent" to the will of a team of destinty, unforseen by all.
NB: There has never been a greater catch in UCONN history than george springers Willie Mays replay
NICK: saw all plays live except for maya's. springer's catch-3rd, kemba's step back against pitt-2nd. the winner is- teggart's career longest for the win and a bcs bowl bid.
Kevin: Till the day I die I will never forget watching Dave Teggart put that kick through the uprights at Raymond James Stadium. From Indiana to Notre Dame all the way to the BCS its been one heck of a ride!
Tom: Kemba's game winner vs Pitt has to be the best, Uconn hadn't beaten Pitt in several years and to do so in such dramatic fashion and what that shot led to was the ultimate play for uconn that season.
David: Kemba's ankle breaking crossover on McGee set us on the road to win the National Championship
Dougberlin: Kemba making G McGhee look like a fool was by far the turning point that refueled our Huskies and powered us to win the BET and National Championship, but Teggy's 52 yarder put Uconn on the
Ann: There were more important plays but for sheer fun kemba's pass to himself is the best!
Josh: Teggart's kick was huge, but let's face it.. Kemba's shot against Pitt in the BET was, by far, the single defining moment of UConn sports this year.
NickRockyHill: There were so many great ones to choose from! I loved the George Springer catch and Kemba's dagger, strip of WVU at Rent but the Teggart 52 yard kick to send us to the Fiesta Bowl has to be the play.
Freeshie: Hands down. No one thought the men could do it. That was the big play that gave them the momentum to win the big east and silence all the doubters going into the NCAA tourny.
Ed: UConn's victory over Pitt in the Big East Tournament profoundly shifted the fortunes and future of the Huskies thereafter and more importantly the long term stability of the program.
charlie: Springer's catch was among the best I've seen -- I'll never forget it. But it had no effect on the outcome of the game. Teggart's field goal was unbelievable AND gave UConn its greatest achievement.
Ron C: The decision to go for it 4th and 1 deep in your own zone with the game on the line...the crowd may have been going wild but in your head you could hear a pin drop.
Barbara: To see Bria Hartley early as a freshman in a huge game come out without fear and nail that 3--not to mention the 5 points before that in less than 2 minutes!. 4 yrs of gutsy basketball to savor. Wow!
Dave: All the choices are worthy but Kemba's step back was not only spectacular but set the stage for 5 games,5 days ,5 wins and then a National Championship.
PatZ: Kemba's jumper against Pitt. We were at Garden and it was amazing; strangers high-fiving, Pitt fans speechless. That definitely started the championship run -- for both tournaments!
Frank Simmons: Nothing in the most recent history of Men's Basketball could come close to beating the unbelievable run thru the Big East Tourney then thru the NCAA to the Title. No one, would have picked them .
Scott: Don't get me wrong--loved the way Kemba put the big guy from Pitt on the floor. But everything being relative, Teggart's kick to put UConn football in the Fiesta Bowl was HUGE!!
Jared: Beating Pitt in BE Tourny led to the nat'l championship. momentum from this game carried the team throughout the rest of the season
Danoooo: HAD to be the 4th down...UCONN lost so many games on the last posession, season was truly hanging in the balance with that 1 play...make it you win, punt it ...well, a field goal wins it for PITT.
Cody J: Teggert has nerves of steel. It takes bull size cojones to pop that PigSkin through the uprights @ 52yds. All the blood, sweat, and tears dropped on the gridiron came down to one snap and one kick.
Jim: The Pitt win catapulted the Huskies into believing they were a team of destiny. As it turned out, Pitt may have been overrated. However, that game put the Huskies back on the national post season ma
Emmanuel: With honorable mention to Jeremy Lamb's steal/slam vs. San Diego State and Dave Teggart's BCS-clinching 52 yd.field goal, the play of the year hands down is Kemba's step-back, ankle-busting J. WOW!
Matt&Lisa: We choose Dave Teggarts winning field goal...we were lucky enough to go to Florida to see the game and it was probably the most exciting moment we've experienced at a game!!
Nick: Kemba's game-winning shot against Pitt. After the sobering experience of the 1st Pitt game, it was huge to beat them. A real confidence builder on their march to title #3.
hartfordhusky: Kemba,....step back... Kardiac Kemba!!!
Erik: Kemba's buzzer beater against Pitt. If he doesn't make that shot then maybe uconn doesnt carry the momentum from that game winner to the BE Championship and eventually National Championship!!!
Rich: As a big UCONN Football fan, Kemba's shot off the backboard to himself is amazing and not something that happens very offten. That's my 1st vote and taking the chance on 4th and one is my 2nd. Go Dog
Bob: Gotta be Kemba's shot. Without that who knows if they would have even made the NCAA tourney. That shot propelled them to the National Championship.
Mike: You won't watch another Big East Tournament without seeing a replay of "Cardiac Kemba" being held by Shabazz Napier at half court. Quite possibly the greatest play in Uconn Athletic history.
Matt P: I think it has to be Nick Williams' kickoff return against Pitt that completely changed the momentum of the game
Derek: Teggerts kick was an historical day however UConn unfortunately fell to OU. The game winning shot broke the momentum meter plus how often do you see someone get floored, on the game winning shot.
Russell: Roscoe hands down. Not only was it funny, but that moment showed two things: 1: A young UConn team that was talented but flawed 2: Winning the game anyway showed poise they didn't have the previous yr
AF: Kemba vs Pitt. It was at that moment that ANYTHING really seemed possible.
Megan: Hands down Kemba's shot to beat Pitt in the Big East tourney. Been watching Uconn men's basketball since the late 80's and that is the best shot ever besides Tate George's buzzer beater in 1990!
chris: the kemba shot vs pitt. easily. the 4th down call edsall made vs pitt in football...distant second
John: Kemba's game-winning shot against Pitt. High profile game on big stage against #3. W/o that shot, they don't advance to win BET; get a lower NCAA seed, lose momentum, etc. Spark that ignited the RUN
Will: It is not a play-somehow the UC women should have been recognized tor 89 wins- history was made in all men's anwomen's basketball since John Wooden!
askboz: gotta be kemba - i count four moves at least; McGhee stayed with three of them but couldn't handle the fourth. A clutch shot from a clutch year.
Ken: I chose Dave Teggart's 52-yard field goal for two reasons: 1. Much like the first appearances in basketball final fours or soccer finals, the BCS bowl gave UConn nationwide recognition and more access to better quality recruits. 2. On a personal bias, I watched Dave in High School kick 40+ yard field goals and punt the within the 5 yard line, repeatedly and consistently. I'm glad he went to UConn, my alma mater.
Otto: Lots of amazing UConn moments this year in several sports. Thanks to Teggert, Kemba, and Maya for lots of great memories. Sorry, Kemba, but I had to go with 52 yard FG to send us to BCS bowl.
Joe: Roscoe should keep better track of time when he makes those shots
bob: Kemba's shot vs Pitt was astonishing leading to uconn victory
Kevin R Loughran: It was an amazing year beyond a doubt for UConn sports. I think you missed the big one though - Kemba's wrap around pass to Jeremy Lamb for the winning bucket in the Big East Tournament.
mikeedwards: Should have included Ryan Fuller's walkoff base hit against Clemson to force final deciding game which UConn won...like Teggart's kick...biggest play in the program's history mark: Edsal made the decision, Todman had to carry it out, Pitt knew it was coming. CAHONES!
MB: Edsal had to make a decision, Todman had to execute that decision,Pitt knew it was coming--and Todman made it. Cahones!
Your Mom: Kemba's shot vs Pitt, hands down. Electrified the Garden and the state of CT, and sent a message to the country that something special was happening with UConn this year.
Shawn: Kemba's shot was money but Teggie's kick made it a fiesta!
Denise: Kemba's amazing game-winning shot against Pittsburgh. I could watch that shot over and over and never get tired of it.
Tony R: Kemba's clutch shot against Pitt that shocked the Big East world and beyond and propelled us to the national championship!
Drey Walker: Kardiac Kemba!! step back shot against Pitt. I thought he broke McGhee's ankle
Jim New Britain: Kemba's shot against pitt was, without question, the uconn play of the year. That kind of got uconn started in what would be greatest run in ncaa tourney history. THE CLASSIC ANKLE BREAKER!
UConn Don: 52yd FG, no doubt. Even tho football is the poor sister compared to BBall, this was a breakthrough, much like the NIT win in '88
reek: Kemba vs Pitt greatest finish ever.
Gil P: Kemba's winning Big East Tournament hoop vs Pitt triggered the longest post season winning streak in NCAA post season basketball hisotry, 11 games which will never, ever, ever be equaled
Anna: Dave Teggart's 52 yard kick was outstanding and exciting!!
ragnarock: True making clutch shots in big games and hitting milestones equate with greatness, but how many times have you seen a self pass off the backboard 2 score in NCAA or NBA?
Mark: Kemba's shot is a no-brainer. It was the play that propelled this team to a national championship. No other play on the list can claim that.
The Southington Portsider: Kemba's shot vs. Pitt; Hands Down. But Roscoe's shot as a choice doesn't make sense
publicus: Kemba's shot against Pitt. Pitt has been UConn's bogeyman the last few years. Getting past Pitt made everything happen. It ignited the magic. Lose to Pitt, no Big East Championship and no NCAA title.
Ron C: The decision to go for it 4th and 1 deep in your own zone with the game on the line...the crowd may have been going wild but in your head you could hear a pin drop.
vengeance: Nobody cares. UCONN is the biggest waste of tax dollars, and Calhoun should be fired. Anshu Nanda: Kemba is the best!!!!!!
David T.: Kemba's game winning dish to Jeremy Lamb with 14 seconds left to beat Louisville. Amazing, athletic, heady play... and it won the Big East Championship!
Pete F.: Not a chipshot, Teggart's 52yarder put UConn football "where no man had gone before".
Drew: kemba shot against pitt will be one of the shots showing up on greatest game winners of all time
Dan: Teggart's field goal against South Florida is the biggest play ever in UCONN Football history. Both UCONN Men and Women have had bigger plays in their history than the ones listed here.
jarhead1775: Toss up between Kemba's fake the shoot out of that kid from Pitt and Teggarts FG. I give the nod to Teggart, however for the bigger picture of what it meant for UConn.
Gary H: Huskies defense in the 2nd half of Nat. championship game.
Alex P.: Kemba's shot against Pitt was the most heart-stopping, jaw-dropping, exciting moment of the year and also the instant that we knew to expect great things from our Huskies.
Curt: All these plays were great, but the one that left me shaking my head in disbelief was Dave Teggart"s 52 yard field goal.
Mogers: Kembas shot against Pitt for sure. Had he not hit that, our whole rally would've never begun. The ending to that Pitt game sparked our boys to play the way we did. Without it, no national championship
Wes Eustice: Kemba's shot at Pitt. If for no other eason that the look on the defender's face shen he ealized he'd been had.
Mary: Coombs-McDaniel calling time out, which set up the play for Kemba
Moe: Teggarts kick put Uconn FB on the college football media map.
swimmer: Junior Karim Zayed, posted an NCAA B-cut qualifying time as he won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:36.28, which set an all-time UConn record and a pool record at Maryland.
Dave G: ridiculous to have Roscoe on this list for his brain fart moment that he would like to forget.
PBerg: All these plays were nice for winning the game, but Maya's shot that broke the record for wins, will go down in history. How do you compare that?
Keith: Kemba's shot in the BET, last second shot against a #1 seed and during a 5 game 5 day stretch, no other college basketball team achieved let alone uconn team has achieved, on way to 11 straight
Jeff Crocket: teggarts was not an ordinary 50+ field goal it put UConn in their first BCS Bowl ever playing on New Years Day It was a huge moment for the institution
Matt: chuck okwandu breakaway steal, dunk to open marquette game
Husky85: I know Kemba's shots were huge ... but lots of guys [and girls] make those kinda shots ... Teggart's FG again, huge, but lots of guys make 50-plus yarders under pressure. Check Springer's video.
Gator: I honestly thought Oriakhi's rebound at the end of the SDSU, and subsequent pass to Lamb for the "dagger" 3 was the best play of the year. Obviously, not the most flashy, but it was my favorite.
Rick: tight end Teddy Bakers game winning catch with no time left in Blue White game.
Dan: The Springer catch was amazing, but didn't impact the game, Kemba vs pitt was huge, but the 52 yard field goal put the football team in a BCS game, somewhere they've never been beforeCopyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
