I have cable TV. Not only do I have cable, but I have the sports package. I get SNY, YES, NFL Red Zone, soccer, Speed TV, ESPN 3D, you name it. But I think it's cheap and sleazy the way UConn dumped the TV station that put them on the map.
Any Connecticut family who doesn't have SNY will not be able to see most of the UConn women's basketball games. Our state tax dollars go to UConn and now we have to pony up more money? I'm tempted to boycott the games. In fact, I just might do that. Apparently Connecticut's not big enough for women's basketball anymore. UConn is looking to New York City, northeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey for their new fan base.
This whole thing could backfire when SNY finds out that women's basketball in the Northeast is very small potatoes indeed. Except for one or two contests, I predict that outside of Connecticut, the game ratings will be lucky to equal the ratings of "Swamp People."Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
