UConn's Jackie Burns Is New Elphaba in Broadway's "Wicked"

Jackie Burns, Connecticut Repertory Theatre, UConn BFA alum and Connecticut native, is now starring as Elphaba in the hit musical "Wicked" on Broadway.

 Burns started in the role on Tuesday. Also starring in the show is Chandra Lee Schwartz, also from the show's first national tour. Burns succeeded Teal Wicks and Schwartz will be replacing Katie Rose Clarke.

Burns has appeared on Broadway in "Hair" and off-Broadway, she was in the original company of "Rock of Ages" and appeared in "Unlock'd" at New York Musical Theatre Festival.

The Broadway company now features Richard H. Blake as Fiyero, Kathy Fitzgerald as Madame Morrible, Tom McGowan as The Wizard, Etai BenShlomo as Boq, Cristy Candler as Nessarose and Tom Flynn as Dr. Dillamond.

The touring company of the musical recenmtly played Hartford's Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts for its third go-round.
