The NHL may be locked in a labor dispute, but we know we'll see hockey in Hartford this winter. The Whale's preseason schedule was announced Thursday and the first game is Oct. 3, when Connecticut hosts the Albany Devils in Cromwell.

WHALE ANNOUNCE 2012-13 PRESEASON SCHEDULE* * * *Includes Local Dates in Cromwell and at Trinity College HARTFORD, August 30, 2012: The Connecticut Whale today announced its preseason game schedule, in which the team will prep for the upcoming 2012-13 American Hockey League season. The preseason slate consists of three games, two of which will be local home outings. Area fans’ first chance to see the Whale in action will be Wednesday, October 3, when Connecticut hosts the Albany Devils at Champions Skating Center, 6 Progress Drive in Cromwell, CT. Faceoff for that game is 7:00 PM, and proceeds will benefit Middlesex Whalers Youth Hockey. The Whale’s lone road preseason contest is scheduled for Thursday, October 4 against the Worcester Sharks at the College of the Holy Cross’ Hart Center, with faceoff at 7:00. Head Coach Ken Gernander’s team then wraps up its preseason slate with a rematch vs. the Sharks Sunday, October 7 at the Koeppel Community Sports Center at Trinity College. That game will be a 2:00 PM faceoff and is a benefit for the Ryan Gordon/Connecticut Whale Community Scholars Fund, with donations accepted at the door in lieu of an admission charge. The fund memorializes young fan Ryan Gordon, who passed away in 2006 and asked that a portion of the monies set aside for his college education be donated to the Connecticut Whale Community Foundation.
